Performing Arts
The Performing Arts department at Flint High is split into different specialisms. We have Drama! Music! Dance! And Performing Arts! Whatever you want to achieve you can do so here!
As a department we try our hardest include everyone across the school and give students the chance to participate in workshops and activities they might not have had a chance to take part in before.
We aim to produce at least one main whole school production a year, in recent years we have performed The Wizard of Oz, Bugsy Malone and Oliver! As well as 6th form productions of "Flint High School Musical" and their own version of Slumdog Millionaire. We aim to include as many students as possible and include students from our feeder primary schools.
In 2008 we took a group of 40 students to New York for a Performing Arts trip. During our 5 days there we saw Mary Poppins and The Lion King on Broadway and were lucky enough to participate in workshops with actors who had been involved in the productions we saw. We plan to take another trip to New York in the foreseeable future so watch this space for more information.

Drama is taught across all key stages and students are able to achieve GCSE levels in this subject. You don't have to want to be an actor or a performer to benefit from the skills learnt in this subject, it's all about taking part and developing your communication skills and confidence.
Students who take Drama often find benefits in other subjects when it comes to analysing texts and presenting in front of a class.
The Drama department has excellent facilities including a purpose built 120 seat drama theatre, full lighting rig and brand new sound system. There is also a rehearsal room that is used for music and drama. All students are encouraged to participate and to take control of their own learning experiences. We value every students input during performances and actively support particular students interests, whether it be acting, lighting, costume or make-up etc.
We offer AQA Drama at GCSE and students have access to Edexcel Performing Arts and Drama and Theatre Studies at A Level through the Deeside Consortium.

end of year 9. There after many pupils opt to continue their studies in order to gain a GCSE, AS and A2 qualification. But how has music earned its rightful place on the national curriculum. Here are just a few reasons why we study it...........
- Music is a practical subject and offers the opportunity for those less academic to excel.
- Music helps you to develop your creative side.
- Music offers the opportunity for pupils to express themselves. It can be calming, uplifting and emotional.
- Music is a very sociable activity, allowing you to share your experiences with a wide variety of people.
Employers for almost any job are interested to see a rounded personality. The study of music also requires self-discipline, commitment and good communication skills - all skills valued by any employer.
At Flint High School there are many ensembles which pupils are encouraged to be a part of. The clubs meet in the lunch break or after school.
- Chamber Choir / Cor Siambr
- Percussion Club / Clwb Offer Taro
- Year 7 Choir / Cor Blwyddyn 7
- Theory Club / Clwb Theori Cerdd

Our future plans involve hoping to offer GCSE Dance and to develop our dance teaching throughout the school in association with the PE department.
