GCSE HOME ECONOMICS: FOOD AND NUTRITION

 

This subject would help students who want a career within the food industry, sport science and child care.  The course covers all aspects of food preparation, including hygiene and equipment.

Assessment is in the form of two pieces of coursework and a final written examination

 

  • 1. Task 1: (20%) One task to be selected from a bank of three tasks set by WJEC.

Duration: 10 hours to commence in year ten.

Internally assessed by subject teacher and externally moderated.

  • 2. Task 2: (40%) one task to be selected from a choice of two tasks set by WJEC.

Duration: 20 hours to commence in year eleven.

Internally assessed by subject teacher and externally moderated.

  • 3. Written paper: (40%) One written paper, externally set and marked, will target the full range of GCSE grades. The paper will contain short-answer, structured and free response questions drawn from all areas of the specification.

 

Parents should be aware that students will be required to provide ingredients for weekly practical lessons during year ten.

An interest in food is a great advantage!
