Religious Education

Key Stage 3
At KS3 students follow the Flintshire Agreed Syllabus and learn about Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism. Religious Studies at KS3 is a varied and thought provoking course designed to encourage students to adopt an open and questioning attitude, whilst developing respect for other cultures and different points of view.
The Year 7 Scheme of Work provides students with a broad foundation in World Religions from which to develop in Years 8 & 9. Across the year students study:
- What is Religion?
- Founders of Religion
- Why is Jesus so special to Christians?
- Celebrations
- Places of Worship
In Year 8 students study:
- Pilgrimage
- Worship
- Sacred books
- Buddhism
In Year 9 students consider some of life's ultimate questions:
- Does God exist?
- Why is there suffering?
- Is everybody equal?
- Is there life after death?
Courses at GCSE level
KS4 compulsory RE - GCSE RS short course is studied (WJEC).
4 units are studied over 2 years:-
Unit 1 - Relationships,
Unit 2 - Is it fair? (prejudice and discrimination, poverty, media),
Unit 3 - Looking for meaning (nature of God, euthanasia, free will, life after death),
Unit 4 - Our world (stewardship and the environment).
The course is assessed by a 1hour 50 minute examination. There is no coursework.
