Student Voice

Student Voice

Students at Flint High get to have their voice heard.

Every form group has a Student Representative on the School Council, a sports rep, an Eco Rep and a member of SNAG (School's Nutrition Action Group).  These groups meet once a month or more often if an urgent matter arises.  They discuss the burning issues of the day.

Things that matter to them such as:

  • the school environment
  • behaviour in school
  • school food
  • how to change to save natural resources
  • school uniform

Things that have happened because of the Student Voice at FHS

  • They spoke to the our MP David Hanson and this led to a visit to parliament
  • They wanted music in the porches and the canteen this is in the planning stage
  • They wanted a new uniform-it happened
  • The girls wanted improved toilet facilities-it was sorted
  • School Council representatives were part of the interviews for: Mrs McClean, Miss Pughe, Mrs Millington, Mr Taylor, Miss Jones and Miss Hyde
  • They didn't like the ugly bike sheds at the front of school so they were removed
  • Paper recycling was not good enough so they improved it
  • They have helped to write new policies such as the Presentation Policy.
  • They have designed planner pages on bullying

This school is a community that welcomes and encourages participation in decision making from all its members.
