Flint High School held a Prize Giving Evening last night.  The aim of the evening was to celebrate the successes of ‘star' students.  Each subject area picked their best students and so did the school's team of Learning Managers.  Over eighty students were given certificates and a specially designed pen.

The school's musical talent was showcased in four diverse performances. Dale Amos and Luke Jones sang songs by Oasis and Bob Dylan, Carys Jones performed a track by Jason Mraz and Catrin Conway, Rebecca Gittins, Erin Davies and Rachel Agrippa sang a traditional ballad.

A highlight of the evening were the sports presentations made by Mr Nick Spearpoint who stole the show with his Lenny Goodman impersonation.  Key awards went to Scott Robinson, Gabriel Maloney and Ryan Pearce.

The final awards of the evening were extra special and were given by guests from the community.  Nathan Roberts, a Lord Lieutenant's Cadet and a RNLI volunteer, was given a Rotary Club Community Award.  Luke McCarron and Andrew Hughes were rewarded by the Lions Club for their extra contributions to school life.  The Mayor and Mayoress of Flint, Cllr and Mrs Cunningham rewarded Megan Conway and Ross Drury for their service to the school as the first ever Head Boy and Head Girl.  Jill Blandford from Flintshire Young Volunteers presented Silver and Bronze Volunteering Certificates.

The evening was a huge success.  Parents, staff, fellow pupils were all delighted to congratulate these extra special students.  Flintshire's Executive Member for Life Long Learning, Cllr Nigel Steele-Mortimer was also a very welcome part of the audience.

The evening was also about working together as it was held at the Gwynedd Primary School. Mr Jeremy Griffiths, Headteacher at the Gwynedd, provided all the technical support.  He said that he was very proud to see so many ex-Gwynedd students receiving awards.  Mrs McClean, Flint High School's Headteacher, said, "This evening shows just how amazing our students are and how proud we are of their achievements."

Flint High School aims to make the celebration even bigger and better next year as it will correspond with the school's seventy fifth anniversary.
